Ozone Technology

Food applications

Ozone Technology's Pressureless Ozonation Systems can safely be used in the food industry for disinfection, preservation, and for sterilizing packaging and equipment.

Advantages of Pressureless Ozonation Systems in the food industry

  • Ozone is especially well suited for food processing because it destroys microorganisms without adding chemical byproducts to the treated food, food processing water, or the atmosphere in which foods are stored.
  • Ozone is certified organic and is approved by the FDA and USDA as food contact substance.
  • In gaseous form, ozone acts as a preservative for certain foods, including eggs, fresh fruits and vegetables, and fresh fish during cold storage.
  • The ozone in Ozone Technology's Pressureless Ozonation Systems is created on-site from ambient air, eliminating safety problems and expense associated with purchasing, shipping, handling, and storing chemicals.
  • Ozone needs only a short contact time, typically 10 to 30 minutes. After use, the ozone decomposes rapidly, leaving no harmful residues.
  • Following ozonation, there is very slow re-growth of microorganisms.
  • Ozone is environmentally friendly. The EPA does not require any record-keeping or reporting of ozone use.
